If you have one day in Kathmandu and want to see the best of it without haggling with taxi drivers or booking an expensive group tour, a private car with a local driver is the simplest option. At Yatri Car Rentals, our Kathmandu sightseeing service starts at $50 per car. The price stays the same whether you travel solo, as a couple, or in a group of 3 or 4, so the more of you there are, the less each person pays.
This guide covers what the $50 includes, which places you can visit in a day, a sample itinerary, and what to know before you go.
Our price is for the car, not for each person.
| Travelers | Total price | Approx. cost per person |
|---|---|---|
| 1 traveler | $50 | $50 |
| 2 travelers | $50 | $25 |
| 3 travelers | $50 | about $17 |
| 4 travelers | $50 | $12.50 |
That makes it one of the most affordable ways to tour Kathmandu Valley in comfort. You get an air-conditioned private car, your own schedule, and a driver who knows the roads, the parking spots and the best times to arrive at each site.
Need more space? We also offer an SUV, Bolero Jeep, Hiace van, Coaster and Deluxe Bus for larger groups, with group discounts available. See our vehicles.
Not included: monument entrance fees (paid at each site), meals, tips, and a guide. If you want a licensed English-speaking guide to explain the history, we can add one. Just tell us when you enquire.
Kathmandu Valley has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, all within a short drive of each other. In one day, most travelers comfortably visit five.
A hilltop Buddhist stupa with painted eyes and panoramic views over the valley. Arrive in the morning for softer light and fewer crowds.
The old royal palace square, full of carved wooden temples and the home of the Kumari, the Living Goddess.
Known as the city of fine arts, Patan is famous for Newar metalwork, the Golden Temple and the Patan Museum.
Nepal's most sacred Hindu temple complex, on the Bagmati River. Non-Hindus can view the complex from the opposite bank.
One of the largest stupas in the world and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. It is especially atmospheric at sunset, when pilgrims walk around the stupa and butter lamps are lit.
If you have a second day, add Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changu Narayan Temple, the oldest temple in the valley, to see all seven sites.

October and November are among the best months to visit. The skies are usually clear after the monsoon and the temperatures are comfortable, which makes it a popular season for international travelers. March to May is also a good time, with warmer weather and spring colors. The monsoon months of June to August bring rain, but the sites are quieter.
Whatever the season, start early. Mornings are cooler, lighter and less crowded.
