Lumbini is a small town in Nepal where Buddha was born. It is one of the most calm and peaceful places you'll ever visit. The main tourist site there is the Maya Devi Temple, a simple white building marking the exact spot where Buddha was born. Inside the Mayadevi temple you can even see a stone marker believed to be his footprint. Right outside you will find an old pillar put up by Emperor Ashoka over 2,000 years ago, and also a quiet pond where Mayadevi (Mother of Buddha) is said to have bathed. Walking through the gardens, you'll pass dozens of monasteries built by different countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, and Cambodia, each with its own style and colors. You'll very often spot Buddhist monks in their robes walking quietly or sitting in prayer. Also the soft chanting of prayers for some monasteries honestly makes the whole place feel even more sacred.
