5N/6D Kathmandu To Muktinath Tour

This package covers three things at once: the culture of Kathmandu, the calm of Pokhara, and the raw scale of the Himalayas in between. Kathmandu comes first β€” centuries of art and layered history packed into a city that rewards slow walking more than a checklist. From there, the road to Pokhara follows the Trishuli River through hill country, and Pokhara itself is hard to describe without sounding like you're exaggerating. Lakeside mornings, Machhapuchhre catching the light on the water β€” it's the kind of view that photos flatten and words undersell. Nearby, Devi's Falls (locals also call it David's Falls) and the Gupteshwor Cave make for an easy half-day if you want to stretch the stop.

From Pokhara, the route turns toward Muktinath and Mustang β€” land that sits just beyond the Himalayan wall, reached by tracing the Kaligandaki gorge. The landscape shifts fast here: apple orchards give way to a dry, almost desert stretch that nature seems to have carved on purpose. This is a one-way leg, and it ends at Muktinath, 3,710m up, a place both Hindus and Buddhists hold sacred, though not always for the same reasons. The 108 water spouts and the Jwala Mai shrine β€” where a flame has burned for longer than anyone can pin down β€” are what most people come to see.

Good to Know

Jomsom flights only run mornings and get cancelled a lot. Going in winter or monsoon β€” build in a spare day, you'll likely need it. Muktinath's above 3,700m, so pack warm even for summer; it drops fast once the sun's down. And if you'd rather skip the Jomsom flight entirely, the same trip runs overland through Beni and Tatopani β€” just tack on an extra day or two.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Look for your name on a sign near the airport exit. Short drive to the hotel after that, and the rest of the day is yours. Most people just sleep β€” the flight in tends to take more out of you than you'd think. If you've got energy left, Thamel's close enough for an hour of wandering. We meet in the evening, briefly, to run through the week.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Pokhara

Pokhara's a 6–7 hour drive, following the Trishuli for a lot of it. Fine road, long day. There's a 25-minute flight if you'd rather not sit in the car. Either way, aim to be at Phewa Lake by evening β€” on a clear day the Annapurnas sit in the water and no photo really gets it right.

Day 3: Pokhara to Jomsom/Muktinath

Early morning drive by jeep from Pokhara through Beni/Tatopani, Jomsom, to Muktinath, experiencing the beautiful seneic views. You can obviously choose the flight from Pokhara to Jomsom if you don't want to ride for long hours.

Day 4: Muktinath to Pokhara

Perform rituals at Muktinath and explore the sacred site. Visit Kagbeni/Jomsom and then ride back to Pokhara.

Day 5: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Visit mystic David falls, Gupteshwor Cave, and ride back to Kathmandu.

Day 6: Departure from Kathmandu

Pashupatinath visit at morning (if your departing time allows) and departure from Kathmandu.
