The Trisuli river is a good time. Simple as that. The rapids sit at Grade 2 to 3. That's enough excitement for a first-timer but nothing that needs years of practice. The water is cold, coming straight off the mountains, and it wakes you up fast once the paddle hits it. Canyon walls rise up on both sides for most of the route, terraced fields sitting way up on the ridgeline above you. There are calm patches too, where the current slows down and you can just float, look around, maybe spot a village on the bank. No trekking involved. No altitude to worry about. No permits, no gear to arrange beforehand. Just a river, a raft, and a few hours where the only job you have is paddling when the guide tells you to.
Good for a first rafting trip. Good for a repeat one too.
| Duration | 1 Day |
| Start / End point | Kathmandu |
| Route | Kathmandu to Trisuli river and back |
| Best suited for | First-time rafters, families with teens, adventure seekers on a short timeline |
| Mode of travel | Private vehicle to and from the put-in point |
Trisuli runs best from October to early June, before the monsoon makes the water too high and fast for a comfortable trip. Bring a change of clothes, you will get wet, and a bag you don't mind leaving on the vehicle during the rafting stretch. Swimming ability isn't required, but it helps if you're not used to being in open water.
Pickup in Kathmandu, drive out to the put-in point along the Trisuli. Safety briefing and gear fitting before getting on the water.
On the river. Around three hours of rafting, rapids mixed with calmer stretches where you can relax and take in the canyon.
Lunch by the riverbank once you're off the water. Time to dry off and change before the drive back.
Return drive to Kathmandu, drop-off at your hotel.
