To be honest, most people treat Nagarkot as a quick stop, drive up, see the view, drive back down. It deserves a bit more than that. It's a ridge east of Kathmandu with one of the widest mountain views in the valley, Annapurna on one end, Everest way off on the other, if the sky's playing along. Staying the night is what actually makes the difference, sunset the evening you arrive, sunrise the next morning, both from the same hill without rushing either one.

Check the weather the evening before you leave Kathmandu. Cloud cover kills the view completely, mountains or not, and there's no fixing that once you're up there. Evenings in Nagarkot run cold, so pack a jacket regardless of season. Rooms with a mountain-facing view tend to book out first, so it's worth confirming that when you reserve.
Pickup in Kathmandu, drive of about an hour and a half up to Nagarkot. Check in, then head straight to a viewpoint for sunset, the hills turning gold before the valley lights come on below.
Early start for sunrise, the range lighting up gradually with Everest catching the sun along with everything closer. Breakfast after, then the drive back down to Kathmandu.
