Manakamana is a place named after the Hindu goddess, where her temple lies. It sits on top of a hill, and it feels like it. The temple is small, but view around it is not. Terraced fields fall away on every side, the Trishuli river cuts through the valley below, and the cable car ride up there is half the reason people come. Locals call her the wish-fulfilling goddess. People travel from across Nepal just to ask for one thing and mean it.
You don't need to believe in any of it to enjoy the ride. But it helps.

The cable car gets busy on Saturdays and during festival months, especially Dashain, so mornings are the better bet if you'd rather skip the line. It runs on a fixed schedule and shuts for lunch in the middle of the day, so timing your visit around that saves waiting. Bring cash. Small shops near the temple don't always take cards.
Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Kurintar, take the scenic cable car ride to Manakamana Temple for darshan and prayers, enjoy the views and explore the area, and return to Kathmandu in the evening.
