Chitwan runs on a different clock than the rest of Nepal. No temples to rush between, no mountain views to chase before the clouds roll in. Just forest, river, and a national park that goes about its business whether or not anyone's watching. Two nights is enough to slow down into that pace, spend real time in the park, and still get a proper look at rhinos, birds, and maybe a gharial or two along the river.
It's a short trip, but a full one.
| Duration | 2 Nights / 3 Days |
| Start / End point | Kathmandu |
| Route | Kathmandu to Chitwan and back |
| Best suited for | Wildlife lovers, families, short getaways from Kathmandu |
| Mode of travel | Private vehicle |
The park runs on a fixed schedule for safaris, usually one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so plan around those rather than your own clock. Mornings and evenings get cool even though the daytime heat can climb fast, so pack for both. Binoculars help more here than almost anywhere else in Nepal, especially if birdwatching is part of your interest.
Drive south into the terai, warmer with every hour. Check in at the resort, then a canoe ride along the river before dinner. Tharu cultural show in the evening, drums and stick dancing.
Morning jungle safari, jeep or elephant-back depending on what's arranged. Afternoon walk through a nearby Tharu village, then a visit to the elephant breeding centre before dinner.
An early walk or short birdwatching stretch before breakfast. Check out, then the drive back to Kathmandu, arriving by early evening.
